HISTORY
My story, condensed.
My name is Nathan Murphy. I live in Madison, Indiana, a small town along the Ohio River. I was homeschooled through high school and started Heritage Woodworks and Zamar Instruments shortly after I graduated. Most of my woodworking instruction has come from the Marc Adams School of Woodworking where I interned in the summer of 2016. I have studied with the likes of Marc Adams, Mark Del Guidice, Michael Fortune, Chris Gouchnor, Scott Grove, Mitch Kohanek, William "Grit" Laskin, Jeff Miller, Mike Pekovich, John Ressler, and others. My approach is a passion for perfection, blending both hand and power tools to achieve flawless results as quickly as possible. I built my first guitar in 2015 and immediately fell in love with the almost ethereal blend of form, function and beauty. I am trying to lean toward building primarily guitars and accessories but am still building furniture and other items in the process of growing my business. My background and initiation into woodworking through furniture gives me a passion for unparalleled craftsmanship and artistry, while my musical background - I've played piano since age 6 and guitar since age 11 - gives me the drive to create instruments that feel right in the hands of a player, where the tonal qualities and feel of the strings against the frets lend to the musicianship. I'm trying to craft beautiful music from beautiful instruments. For me, Zamar Instruments provides a way to be self-employed, which will hopefully allow me to someday raise a family while working from home. My dream is to use my gifts well for the glory of God while being able to work in an environment where I can see my future kids through the day, eat lunch with my family, and be able to pass on the skills that I have learned to a new generation.
